RARE TOKEN UNEARTHED IN NEW YORK-
A very lucky treasure hunter named James J. Shook, of upstate New York, recently dug up one of America's rarest tokens, the Castle Garden 1825 oval silvered-brass piece listed as NY 645A. It is worth, even in its earth-induced corroded state, about $1,000.00 but could bring more at a public auction..Up until Shook's discovery only six specimens were known..

3 men were arrested for smuggling 23 silver proof Ike dollars out of the San Francisco Asssy Office by holding them in their mouths and latter spending them.

The United States Mint sold its entire production of proof sets in just six (6) days..Orders were accepted starting November 1st, 1968 and by November 6th the numbers of orders already recieved totaled well over the Three million sets the Mint felt it could produce.

It seams we should pay more attention to our money. A Danvile, Ky dairy Queen employee paid out $198.00 in change after recieving a political gag $200.00 bill deplicting President George W. Bush in payment of a $2.00 purchess. This story was picked up by the International News Services.

SAFEWAY TEAMS UP WITH THE MINT

Last year is was Wal-Mart who made the headlines by distributing the new Sacagawea Dollar coins. Now this year it will be Safeway, a nationwide grocer and drug retailer who will utilize the "golden dollar" in all of the stores.

NEW QUATERS ARE BEING MINTED:
The new circulating commemorative quarters are now being minted in Phila.. The program launched on December 7, 1998 at the Philadelphia Mint in a ceremony headed by Mint Director Philip N. Diehl and US Treasurer Mary Ellen Withrow. For the next 10 years at the rate of one new coin every 10 weeks, the US Mint will produce hundreds of millions of quarters, each bearing a design of one of the 50 states. In addition to the circulating version, proof versions and .900 fine silver versions will be available. Each coin will be produced in the order in which they entered the union. Delaware signed the Constitution first so that will be the first quarter minted, followed by Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut in 1999 and others to follow in comming years until 2008 when Hawaii's quarter will finish out the collection.(SEE LISTING BELOW), By that time they hope to have Congress amend the law to have a 51st coin struck for the District of Columbia. This is the first time the Quarter dollar has seen a design change sence 1975-1976 when the Bicentennial reverse was added. So keep an eye out in your change for the new quarters.
